At the met today: I also loved the same co-location of primitive pottery to these remarkable stone vases, same thing you see in the Cairo museum. An excellent pottery example here, clearly shaped and decorated to imitate hard igneous stone. Basalt pounders, yo.

The massive black cyanite box in the closed off extension in the Serapeum of Saqqara. We surprised our tour with a special permission to enter this space. Got a lot of video and a scan, more coming on this area.

The quartzite outlet bowl for the so called ‘sewer system’ at the old kingdom site of Abu Sir. Channeled bock infrastructure runs all below the floor level and down the causeway here. Something more industrial perhaps? #megalithic #egypt

Scoop marks, some seemingly articulated or angled, at the granite quarry in Aswan. No signs of any fire use, if that were used we would see much more cracked surface granite. Microscopic photos we took appear to show no chisel or pounding marks, but further analysis is coming.

Tiny, exquisite, translucent green stone vase from the early period of Egypt, perhaps green tourmaline? Why handles on an object you hold between two fingers? A rock crystal gourd from predynastic times. These types of objects disappear from the record after the 3rd/4th dynasty.

Down into the Osiris shaft yesterday. Water level has risen in the bottom chamber, I expect it will be inaccessible soon. Still an adventure getting down! We also figured out the mystery of the black goo in one of the boxes! a topic for a future video 🙂
