New Video: The Black Pyramid of Dashur!

Going beneath the Black Pyramid at Dashur is a rare opportunity – entering the labyrinthian set of passages and chambers grants us insight into dynastic pyramid architecture. First excavated in the late 1800s, some passages have collapsed, and several are in danger of collapse due to the weight of the mud-brick pyramid above. We had the chance to view and inspect several interesting artifacts still in place beneath this iconic, ancient structure!

Many thanks to my good friend Kyle Allen for the footage – and MANY thanks to Adam Young of the Artifact Foundation for inviting me to visit the Black Pyramid! https://www.artifactfoundation.org/

  1. Have you seen this video? It claims that Hawass has admitted he was wrong and said that new technology suggests a system of hidden, man-made passages and chambers lie under the Sphinx. Is this just Hawass’ way of getting away from his public persona or is there merit in what this video says?

  2. Great video. Is it now safe to assume that rather then predating the Giza pyramids, pyramids like the Black, the Bent, the Red, etc, were actually attempts to recreate the much older three?

    1. I put them in two classes. The stone megalithic pyramids (meidum, bent, red, giza pyramids, perhaps others at saqqara (not step) and abu sir) are, I think, older. There is strong evidence that the dynastic egyptians certainly worked on those from c14 dating, but I do not think you can use this evidence to say they built them in their entirety. They are multi-generational projects. Perhaps they repaired, altered, or even cased them. I think the step and the mud-brick pyramids were dynastic and done as imitations of the other pyramids. There is a lot of nuance in all this, one of these days I’ll do a detailed video on it.
